Since I have ADD, tracking ANYTHING is a huge challenge for me. Not long ago, however, I found a small printable template that is making things a little easier.

It is basically a 3x5 card with check boxes for grains, protein, vegetables, fruits, dairy, fats/sweets, and water. It marks off how many boxes you should check depending on if you are following a 1200, 1600, or 2000 calorie diet. Each time you eat, you check off how many servings of each you have.

While I don't get a detailed breakdown, I do get a good sense of how balanced my eating habits are. Also, since the cards fit into my pocket or my purse, they are always on hand to fill out, even if I have an impromptu snack while out and about.

Ideal? No. Comprehensive? Certainly not. But for an ADDer, it sure pulls me in the right direction for once

I have found out that the pool is your friend when you are injured or if you over did on working out. I have an ankle injury and have been going to water aerobics and just jogging in the pool several times a week. It has really helped me keep on track and I believe heal. So the next time you workout too hard one day, use the pool as your workout the next time.

Kai Hibbard comes out to talk about the Biggest Loser. She is saying it's not accurate. To this I say, "You do know it's a reality TV show right?" Through editing, production, etc these shows are anything but reality. I love the fact that the show inspires me to get on a treadmill, but I never expect to get the results they get on the show. I also know that when you wave $250,000 in front of people they will do some pretty stupid things to their body to get it.

This is a follow up to his book, "The Omnivore's Dilemma." I haven't read that one yet, but I'm currently listening to "In Defense of Food." It's pretty good. It is more along the conspiracy lines of in a "Food, Inc." vibe. Makes sense since Michael Pollan was in the film "Food, Inc." The book so far has focused on the obsession with the nutritional values of the food and how inaccurate the measurement of nutritional values can be. It's interesting, but gets pretty bogged down in studies and finger-pointing. As far as a weight-loss book, it will cloud your judgement about the food you should eat more than anything else.

Ugh, having problems sticking to my diet right now. My wife just gave birth to my son on the 30th of April. I took off work until the 12th of May to help take care of them. This is our third child and my wife's third c-section. Here's the problem: There is too many food temptations in this house! I'm used to more of a controllable setting. I work by myself in a truck all day long. I always pack my day's food the night before in accordance with the caloric restraints I put on myself. I space the meals out every two - three hours, and I'm good to go. At home, it's a different story right now. I'm running on very little sleep, and to compensate, I'm craving fats and sweets, which, because we recently had a prego in the house, we have an abundance of. Ugh.

Agreed. I try to enter what I ate right after I ate it. My one problem with SparkPeople is that it doesn't have copy/paste like abilities for the days you eat similar meals. For instance, during the week when I'm at work, I typically eat very similar meals all week long. I have to enter each item for each day. Small grievance, but one nonetheless.

4) Take an active interest in your health and fitness. Join a forum (like this one), research online, and read as much as you can on the subject. I'm a mixture of OCD and ADD, so I get very obsessed with a subject for a week or so (usually), then move on. I've been eating as much info as possible on nutrition, weight loss, exercise, etc. whenever I can find it. All of this gets me excited to get back to the gym to try new things and ideas for different foods to try. Not everything works for everybody. I realize that Greek yogurt is wicked healthy for you. I just can't stomach the stuff.

5) Incorporate technology. I'm an iPhone guy. It does just about everything I need it to do for me. I use SparkPeople on it. I have a few different programs showing different exercises. It has my music, podcasts, and audiobooks on it. Something you can try is find some kind of media that you are interested in. For instance, I have "Zombie Survival Guide" in audiobook format on my iPhone. I would only allow myself to listen to it IF I was doing cardio. If I wanted to get thru that next chapter, I was going to have to stay on the elliptical a little bit longer.

More to come later!

Great points. I like Diet power, but with putting stuff in my phone the last few months, I only use now and again when I want detailed information about what (not so much how much) I'm eating. It's great for feedback on what you're eating. Once I started using a phone, it's kind of hard to go back to something on the PC (not even web based). great software, but ease of use comes into play (or the fact that you can forget what you ate while you were out). With your phone you are a few clicks away (so I'm more accurate).
