Don’t Wait For Your Birthday to Get in Shape

As we age, we naturally lose muscle. So we are naturally going to burn less calories. Here in Ohio it’s snowing. As I shoveled, I thought about how hard this would be if I had a smaller shovel. Realize that the longer you postpone starting to liver healthier the smaller your shovel will be to take off the unwanted pounds.  Start today, and start building a bigger shovel through exercise and turn back the clock.

Know When Your Buttons are Being Pushed, and Ignore Your Triggers

Wedding CakesI went with my Fiance to pick up our “taster” cakes for our wedding (cakes used to allow you to taste the cake without actually buying a whole cake).  I had eaten about an hour or so before we left. However, probably 10 minutes inside the bakery with the smells, and being surrounded by wall to wall cakes. My stomach was grumbling LOUDLY (my fiance asked, “Was that you?”). I laughed as I knew the sites and smell were pushing my buttons.  However, because I’m tracking my food I knew it wasn’t time for me to eat (I try to eat every three – maximum four hours). I was just physically reacting like Pavlov’s dog to the frosting. If I hadn’t been tracking my food, I probably would’ve folded.

A Website Advertising Reliable Information

I found http://www.healthfinder.gov/default.aspx that seems to have a fair amount of information. The recommendation for exercise is

150 of Moderate (Walking Brisking) exercise per week. OR
75 Minutes of strenuous exercise per week.

This is a target for being healthy (not so much for losing weight). This is the “low” side of the bar.  However, if you’re just starting it’s a good target to get you going until you can ramp up to more minutes (always consult your doctor before starting an exercise program). Here is a link to a video they have.

Total Body Workouts Don’t Work For Me

I purchased the Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD and its a great workout. It works your total body. Except the next day I was so sore I couldn’t exercise. In her book “Winning By LosingJillian Michaels provides a plan where you alternative different body parts. So you work chest on one day, legs on another, etc. This way while you are allowing parts of your body to rest (and rebuild) while you work another.

Great Motivational Music

I love the song “The Motions” by Matthew West.  My favorite lyrics

I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything?
Instead of going through the motions.

You can purchase this song at Amazon.com or in iTunes
