End Boring Food – Get In the Kitchen
I'm not a chef by any means, but I knew there were healthy ways to eat without eating the same boring food. You may think that you don't have time to cook. I heard a top on the Beyond Diet Podcast that you can throw food in a slow cooker and cook while you sleep. A great tip, from a great podcast. So I went in search of a slow cooker recipe book and found “Fix-It and Forget-It Lightly.”
Here is a recipe for Barbecued Chicken Breasts
1 lb frying chick, cut up and skin removed (I just through in chicken breasts)
10 3/4 oz can condensed tomato soup (I chose low sodium)
3/4 cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup vinegar
3 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 dried basil
1. Place chicken in the slow cooker
2. Combine all reaming ingredients and pour over chicken, making sure that the sauce glazes all the pieces.
3. Cover, Cook on low 6-9 hours
Makes 6 servings, 170 calories (40 from fat).
Alcohol – What Good Happens Because of Alcohol?
Alcohol is empty calories. They are pointless. Don't get caught up with the new “low carb” beers (its about the CALORIES). Alcohol is worthless calories. Recently on the Biggest Loser one team got a day of being pampered, and they went nuts with their food, and with alcohol (double shots of tequila). Can you answer this question for me?
This _____ wouldn't have happened unless I was drunk. (and that ___ should be something positive).
Most stories that involve alcohol don't end with a happy ending. So alcohol can lead to bad decisions, and its empty calories, so WHY ARE YOU DRINKING IT?
Mind, Body, Spirit
I was at the YMCA and on the wall it shows Mind, Body, Spirit. Now I'm not sure what their official explanation of these terms are, but here is my definition:
Spirit: This is your attitude. If you don't believe in yourself, then you won't do what you need to do to lose weight. You need to believe. This is why I say the only person who can stop you – IS YOU.
Mind: I take this as knowledge. If you are unaware that twinkies are bad, then you might go “Look 100 calorie Twinkies – these must be healthy.” You need to get ramped up so you can make good choices.
Body: When I hurt my back a few weeks back, I couldn't exercise. You need to exercise in a way that works your body without working it too hard. I know you want to weight off yesterday (so do I), but slow and steady wins the race.
The point is you need your body to work, you need to believe you can make the right choices, that you can make the time for yourself to exercise, and that you have the knowledge to make the right choices.
