Is Thanksgiving at Your House? – Do THIS

If you’re having a dinner or holiday party, send your guests home with leftovers, especially the ooey-gooey ones. Maybe you’re the host who is too busy tending to your party guests to take a moment and eat. What happens is that once they leave and you settle into the kitchen to clean up, the plate of brownies, cheese platter and cupcakes are quicker to land in your mouth than in a piece of sealed Tupperware.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, here is a healthier way to fix sweet potatoes

Sweet Potatoes a l'Orange
A fantastic way to include sweet potatoes in a healthy diet
Ingredients
2 lb. sweet potatoes, cubed
3 TBS frozen orange juice concentrate
2 tbsp. low fat margarine, melted
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
16 dried apricot halves
Fresh orange slices
Instructions
Boil sweet potatoes in salted water until tender, and arrange in shallow baking dish
Combine the margarine and cinnamon and frozen juice concentrate
Pour over the potatoes
Arrange the apricot halves on top
Cover the dish and bake at 425 degrees for about 15 minutes
Add orange slices and serve
Nutrition info: Calories: 185; carbohydrates: 23 gm; protein: 3 gm; fat: 7 gm; sodium: 79 mg
Yield: 4 servings (1 cup serving)

Super Bowl Blues

ledge.pngWell the Super Bowl is over. It was a giant upset. Did it upset you because you ate too much food? I'm afraid to say I did bad, but no horrible. I didn't eat a very big breakfast (so I was hungry by game time) and in walked my brother with Pizza, Chicken and Jo Jos'.

I hadn't had fried chicken months. So I had 3 pieces, and some Doritos, and a couple of sodas. It wasn't my best day.

So does this mean I quit my diet? Did I stop exercising? NO!

While I may have had a bad day (like I do on most Super Bowl Sundays), the rest of the year I'm doing much better.

However if you think about it most holidays and big events in America are tied to food (Candy and Valentine's Day, Ham and Easter, Turkey and Thanksgiving, Ham and Christmas, July 4th and Hamburgers, etc, etc, etc.

Don't let these days through you completely off of your program. If you take a wrong turn, just turn around, get back on track and get back going in the right direction.
